Before contacting us about a problem you are experiencing either using or installing RR-Track v4.x, please take a moment to scan the FAQ page to see if your problem has a solution here.

INSTALLATION
1. I am trying to install RR-Track v4 from the CD and I cannot find the setup application.

    First, double check that you are using the drive letter for your CDROM or DVDROM drive. We use D:\SETUP.EXE since many PC’s have their CDROM drive designated as the D drive but this is not etched in stone. Alternatively, press the Start button, choose Run and then Browse... to bring up an iconic view of your PC, and then choose the CDROM drive icon.

2. I have installed RR-Track but everytime I try to start it and enter the activation code, it tells me I have an invalid or incorrect serial number.

    First, make sure you are entering the activation code exactly as written (remember close only counts for horseshoes, hand grenades, and atomic bombs). Users frequently mistake lower case alphameric ‘b’ and numeric ‘6’, or lower case alphameric ‘L’ and numeric one. If this does not solve the problem, verify you have correctly entered the serial number, observing the case of the letters and numbers.

PRINTING
1. Everytime I print I get a page that is mostly like what is on the screen, but not the page I wanted to print.

    The RR-Track Print Layout Dialog can print either pages tiled in a manner dictated by the printer layout, or localized by the screen view. If you press the Print Current View button, regardless of scale settings or printer page selections, RR-Track will print a section of your layout whose upper left corner is the same as the upper left corner on your screen display, and whose scale is automatically determined by the screen size and the printer page size and is independent of the scale settings you may have chosen. You must press the Print Selected Pages button to print the highlighted pages on the layout preview window. These are printed at the current scale settings.

OTHER
1. How do I change the price on an item?

    You can change the price RR-Track uses for an item by right-clicking on it with the pointer, choosing Properties from the popup menu, and then clicking on the Cost tab. Type in the new price in the edit box, then press Apply and then OK. RR-Track will now use the new price.

2. I can’t get RR-Track to create a grade. What am I doing wrong?

    The track you choose for the grade track must be all of the track between the track section at the beginning height and the track section at the ending height. In other words, there must be a track section at each end of the grade that is not included in the grade track and at different heights (or your grade will have no slope). All of the track sections must be contiguous; this means they have to be joined to each other and to the target track sections at each end of the grade.

3. The Action menu is grayed out, what am I doing wrong?

    The Action menu is not enabled until you select (highlight) some item, either a piece of track of some other object. RR-Track cannot take action on something unless you have it highlighted.

Lionel FasTrack
1. I can’t get track to join to the O72 and O60 turnouts. What am I doing wrong?

    Nothing. You must use the 1200X 1.375 inch fitter straight sections on the exit tracks of the O72 and O60 turnouts as well as the 22.5° cross. This is how Lionel has designed the FasTrack system; RR-Track is merely enforcing the joining rules so that you don’t design a layout you cannot build. RR-Track distinguishes between the 12073/74 straight sections and the 1200X straight section because the latter come with your turnout while the former are extra cost items.

UPGRADING / MOVING RR-Track
1. I am upgrading from v3.x to v4.x and can’t get RR-Track to accept the activation code.

    First, make sure you have v3 properly installed on your PC. You must install v3 from the installation diskettes and run it so that it asks for the serial number. If you do not insert the correct v3 serial number you cannot properly execute the v4 upgrade. After you properly insert the serial number, then you can exit RR-Track v3 and install the v4.x upgrade. You can verify your v3 serial number by starting RR-Track v3, pulling down the Help menu and choosing About, and noting the serial number in the About RR-Track dialog.

    If you do not have the correct v3 serial number, please contact R & S Enterprises by e-mail so that we can supply you with the proper instructions for updating your serial number.

2. I have installed the RR-Track v4.x upgrade and get a message that I have an invalid serial number. What do I do?

    You must make sure that v3 is properly installed on the target PC (see the above discussion). When v3 is properly installed, un-install the v4 upgrade using Add/Remove Programs on the Windows Control Panel, then reinstall the v4 upgrade.

    Do not attempt to transfer an RR-Track v4.x installation from one PC to another without installing from the CD. Transferring the software directly between networked PC’s will generate an invalid installation and possible damage your Windows registry.

UPDATING LIBRARIES
1. I purchased RR-Track v4.x some time back and see that manufacturers have come out with new track components. How do I obtain updated libraries?

    To update any of your existing v4.x libraries, visit our updates page and see if we have a later version of that library. If so, download the update and run it to install the new library. If you do not already own the library, visit our ordering page to order the library.

Windows VISTA
1. Does RR-Track work with Windows Vista?

    We have successfully run RR-Track on Windows Vista with the exception of the RR-Track Help system. Stock installations of Vista do not come with Microsoft’s own help system, you will have to download and install it yourself. You can download the Microsoft Installer update patch by clicking here. This will restore the functionality of your RR-Track Help system..
