RR-Track v4 3-D Viewer is a helper applet for RR-Track v4 that lets you visualize train layout designs created with RR-Track v4 in a virtual three-dimensional space. 3-D Viewer minimizes user input in taking a layout design from the 2D plan view world of RR-Track v4 to the virtual three-dimensional space of 3-D Viewer. You may change your point of view, zoom in or out, move the viewing point as well as a number of other parameters. Using 3-D Viewer, you can print a three-dimensional view of your layout to your system printer.
You do not manipulate the location and orientation of individual track, accessory, or other items in 3-D Viewer (you do that in a 2D layout window), but you may examine your layout from all angles and all locations. 3-D Viewer automatically generates solid filled or smooth shaded terrain for your layout based on terrain information that you provided with TerraMapper. You may choose to have 3-D Viewer automatically adjust the heights of scenery items such as trees and buildings to match the terrain features. 3-D Viewer can also adjust the terrain to compensate for track and accessories letting you visualize features such as elevations and tunnels. You can further enhance your 3D rendition through the addition of fog and anti-aliasing to smooth jagged edges.
To view a layout in 3D, simply choose Show 3D while working on your 2D plan view layout. RR-Track v4 creates a separate 3-D Viewer window and displays your layout. You can switch back to the layout window (by clicking anywhere on it) and make changes to your layout; these are immediately shown in the 3-D Viewer window. You can create terrain features and view them in 3D by opening an TerraMapper window from your layout window and adding or subtracting the terrain and layout base items as needed. Changes appear immediately in 3-D Viewer.
